Chaque année, Séville rejoue ce que le catholicisme donne à la fois de plus vivant et de plus profond. Ensemble, les habitants promènent leurs Vierges dans une attente infinie. Ce livre ne se veut ni explication sociologique ni compréhension historique ; il essaie, dans la démesure du possible, de se tenir à l'orée des sensations, des perceptions, des affects qu'offre la semaine sainte. Les auteurs ont voulu joindre au miroitement des images des moments d'écriture fragmentaire pour transmettre ce paradoxe contemporain où le sacré noue une communauté dans un recueillement sublime et une joie débordante. All of its inhabitants parade their effigies of the Virgin Mary in infinite expectation. This book is intended as neither a sociological explanation nor a historical understanding, attempting, as far as possible, to remain on the fringe of the sensations, perceptions and emotions engendered by Holy Week. The authors have striven to complement the dazzling images with momentary fragments of writing, in order to convey the essence of this contemporary paradox where the sacred unites a community in sublime meditation and overflowing joy. The images and texts evoke, by their movement, rhythm and scansion, this unique communion where the proximity of the Divine resides in a certain distance which has - perhaps always - harboured art and religion.
